2015 Resolutions

WCollages4hereas the messengers of the Minnesota Baptist Association have gathered at First Baptist Church in Marshall, MN for its 156th Annual Meeting, be it resolved that we express our appreciation to the pastors and the people of First Baptist Church for their effort in making the messengers welcome during our Annual Meeting.  Be it further resolved that we also express our appreciation to the program committee for their input in planning a wonderful meeting.  Further appreciation goes to Pastor Mike Harding for his excellent preaching at the meeting.  Be it further resolved that we would encourage each church to pray for the continual success of the churches within our association.

Whereas Dr. Robert Fuller Jr. has accepted the position of State Missionary for the MBA and has begun his full-time duties on May 1st of this year, be it resolved that we encourage all our churches to invite him to fellowship with them for at least one service. Be it further resolved that our churches uphold him and his family in prayer as he seeks to lead the MBA into the next phase of our history.

Whereas we are seeking the expansion of Christ’s Church both within our state and around the world, and whereas Baptist church planting efforts are needed in Minnesota and our surrounding states, be it resolved that we urge all messengers and associated churches to pray, invest, and participate in starting new churches within our region. Be it further resolved that we support the church planting program of the Minnesota Baptist Association and the church plants of our associated churches as the Lord allows and burdens.

Whereas racial unrest is becoming more public, and whereas this unrest affects the communities around our churches, be it resolved that our churches within the Minnesota Baptist Association continue to affirm that the Gospel message is equally efficacious for people “from every tribe and tongue and people and nation” (Revelation 5:9). We affirm that racial prejudice is an affront to the Gospel and a hindrance to the biblical expectation of an ethnically diverse Church which is unified through the One Spirit (Ephesians 4:3-6). Be it further resolved that we celebrate the multiplicity of ethnicities within our associated churches. We also express our commitment to minister in a spirit of biblical equality to all people within our state.

Whereas the state and national definitions for marriage have changed, we reaffirm that the Old Testament prohibited homosexuality, defining sexual relations between members of the same sex as sin (Leviticus 18:22; Deuteronomy 23:17). We also reaffirm that the New Testament affirms that homosexual acts are sinful (1 Corinthians 6:9-10; 1 Timothy 1:8-11). Furthermore, since a civil ceremony or legal license does not legitimize or give divine approval to homosexual activity, our churches will not endorse or give Christian recognition to same-sex civil unions or marriages. Instead, we commit ourselves to sharing the life-changing Gospel with all who are tempted into homosexuality. We reaffirm that those who persist in this sin, as any sin, will experience death and eternal condemnation from God, but that Christ’s sacrifice has fully atoned for this sin for all who turn to Him. We believe that godly believers may be tempted by homosexuality but that they must abstain from this sin in all of its forms.

Update Regarding the State Missionary

Greetings Fellow Pastors and Churches of the MBA,

31419_439059467432_4028707_n[1]It is with great joy that I inform you that Bob Fuller Jr. has accepted the position of State Missionary of the MBA with the intent of starting May 1st, 2015. The State Missionary Search Committee received many applications for the position. They narrowed down the applicants to three and then finally down to one. That person (Pastor Fuller) was then interviewed and then presented to the Full Board at the last Board meeting. He was examined further by the Board and upon satisfaction of the Full Board as evidenced by vote Pastor Fuller was offered the position of State Missionary. Since that time Pastor Fuller discussed the opportunity further with his God, his wife, and his church. The net result of that process is that the MBA has a new full-time State Missionary! We praise God for the healthy process of the Search Committee as well as the clarity of the Board in their vote. The coming edition of the North Star Update will contain an article about Pastor Bob Fuller Jr. to further acquaint you and your church to our new State Missionary.

What difference does this change make to you, a church that is part of the Minnesota Baptist Association? By God’s grace, it will make a large difference. The major motivation for the paradigm shift from a part-time State Missionary to a full-time State Missionary is the growth and health of the churches of the MBA. Pastor Fuller will be dedicating his full energy and abilities to the progress of the association churches. This will include renewed efforts towards church planting, towards pastoral and congregational support, towards shared resources and shared ideas. There is no sense in creating a position for the sake of a position, but there is wisdom in creating a position that will benefit and support the local churches which make up the MBA. Such is the purpose of the association. This hire is a direct effort to support and strength your church.

With all of that in mind, would you be willing to let your congregation know about the efforts the MBA is making towards being a blessing to them by hiring Bob Fuller as State Missionary? As a fellow pastor in a sister church it is my joy to see the association of which I am a part of work hard at making an impact in local churches across Minnesota. May God bless you as you seek to bring glory to His name in the communities in which God has placed you.
